The NW Jazz Big Band was formed in the late 1980's and has been playing in the greater Seattle area ever since. Member's ages range from the 20's to the 80's. The band consists of 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 4 rhythm, and one vocalist. The band rehearses every Tuesday evening at the Calvary Christian Assembly in the Roosevelt district near Green Lake.
The NWJBB plays big band jazz in the swing style ranging from the classic big bands of Count Basie and Buddy Rich, to contemporary arrangements of the Jazz Standards.
The band has performed in public at Bellevue Crossroads, church events, weddings, local area festivals such as the Summer Solstice Festival in North Seattle, and has performed out of state in Pennsylvania and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Idaho. The band has also played for various charitable causes such as the Wounded Warrior project.
